I believe that 2019 is going to be the year when the use of Virtual Reality in Christian ministry will really begin to really take off. Headsets are improving and coming down in price. Uses for VR are expanding into areas that will capture the attention of non-gamers: healthcare, education, training, stress-reduction, and even the reducing of hot-flashes (something I’d love to try out — okay now you know I’m not a young adult). The number of VR production companies and app makers has been multiplying exponentially.
So I’m going to begin using my blog about VR in Christian Mission to curate 360° videos found on YouTube that can be used by people who serve the homebound elderly, and by catechists and school teachers who want to make learning more memorable, and by others who want to use the immersive qualities of VR to make a difference for Christ.
We’ll start with the birth of Christ, since we are currently in the Christmas Season. Here are two VR videos you’ll enjoy, as did I. You can watch them right here without a headset.
Imagine who else might enjoy seeing these? Think of the uses for it in the classroom and for the homebound who wish they could visit the Holy Land. What catechists do you know? Please recommend that they subscribe to my blog. Who’s a caregiver? Or anyone who ministers to the homebound? Tell them about this blog. I’m here to make it easy to discover awesome VR experiences for use in ministry.
